New York & Broadway Theater Trip

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
George will book your flights to New York LaGuardia and meet your arriving flight. Private transportation will be provided to the historic ALGONQUIN HOTEL on 44th Street in Manhattan in the heart of the Broadway Theater District. Home of the famous literary round table of the 1920’s and Hamlet, the house cat.
NOTE: If you wish to book your own airfare and meet the group at the hotel -OR- if your flight times cannot be coordinated with George’s group transportation, there will be a $70 discount per person.
Let’s begin our four days in New York with a cocktail reception and three-course dinner at The HARVARD CLUB just a few doors down from The Algonquin. This Ivy League school club houses Harvard Hall, one of the most impressive spaces in New York where JFK, FDR and Alan J. Lerner were once members.
After dinner there may be time to catch a show of your choice, visit Top-
of-the Rock or explore Times Square a few blocks away.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7
This morning George will lead you on a one-hour walking tour of the Broadway Theater District with history & stories about the theaters and the the great Broadway composers.
After the walking tour and a restroom break, George will take you to a Broadway rehearsal hall where we will meet a cast member from one of the shows we’ll be seeing. Find out – first hand – what its like working on Broadway.
The show tonight is SOME LIKE IT HOT at the Shubert Theater. This brand new musical based on the Billy Wilder comedy from 1959, has a score by Marc Shaman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray)
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6
Today is left free for you to enjoy the great city of New York in your own way. Options available today include a short walking tour through CENTRAL PARK led by George, visiting Strawberry Fields, Bethesda Fountain, The Minton Tiles, Grand Mall & the Boathouse. NO ADDITIONAL COST FOR THIS OPTION
Also available is a water tour of the New York skyline aboard a 1920’s vintage yacht. You will travel along the Hudson River, out into the harbor around the Statue of Liberty (up close) and up the East River under the Brooklyn Bridge. The boat is climate controlled, with light food and a full bar available. COST TBD
Tonight’s theater outing is the London transfer of the Olivia Award winning new musical BACK TO THE FUTURE.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9
Today is left free for museums, shopping, strolling a park, a special lunch or a Saturday matinee on Broadway. If you would like a Broadway show for this afternoon, George can make recommendations and provide costs for various levels of tickets.
Around 5 PM we board a private coach and head to Lincoln Center for a cocktail & dinner at THE GRAND TIER dining beneath the giant Chagall tapestries in the Metropolitan Opera House. After dinner we will see the new reimagined CAMELOT at the Vivian Beaumont Theater directed by Bartlett Sher. This 1960 classic by Lerner & Loewe has a new book written by Academy Award winning writer Arron Sorkin.
After the show transportation will be provided back to The Algonquin.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast or take-in a church service at St. Patrick’s or St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Fifth Avenue. Perhaps stroll a quieter Times Square on a Sunday morning.
Check out at noon and settle your bill for any drinks or extra meals. A private coach will depart for LaGuardia for afternoon flights home.
