Depart for London on an overnight flight. George Harter can book your airfare after confirming flight details and price, or you may book your own flight.
Monday, November 27: Tour begins / Dinner
Landing sometime this morning at Heathrow airport, collect your luggage and present your Passport at Customs & Immigration. Take a London Cab or Uber to The Clermont Charing Cross Hotel. TAXI’s are easily available right outside the Terminal. Cost will be about $95.You can share the cost with others on the tour. You can get up to four people with luggage into a London cab. Also there is the Heathrow Express that cost about $35 per person and gets you to Paddington Station in 20 minutes. Then a Taxi to the hotel will be about $15.
Our home in London is just steps from Trafalgar Square and is London’s most centrally located West End, Four Star, Luxury Hotel. This evening meet the group for a welcome dinner with drinks in the Terrace Room overlooking the Strand & Trafalgar Square.
Tuesday, November 28: West End Theater
A full English Breakfast is included each morning of our stay. Enjoy this day to explore London at your leisure. You may choose to catch a double decker Hop-on-hop-off bus near the hotel or go above the city taking in a panoramic view from The London Eye. If you’re ready for shopping visit the Christmas Market in Hyde Park. Tonight, it will be British theater with our first West End Show TBD.
Wednesday, November 29: DAY TRIP
Today we will plan a DAY TRIP for the group to include private transportation coupled with a Pub Lunch. This outing involves a visit & guided tour of WINDSOR CASTLE burial place of Queen Elizabeth II.
After our tour we will walk to a nearby PUB for lunch & a pint before returning to London aboard our coach.
Thursday, November 30: TEA or HMS BELFAST & THEATER
For this afternoon – included in your trip cost – you may choose either HIGH TEA at The Brown, hosted by Sharon Harter- OR – a tour aboard HMS BELFAST guided by George Harter (George served aboard a Royal Navy ship in 1971). The Belfast took part in the D Day Invasion during WW II.
Tonight will be our SECOND West End Theater outing TBD.
Friday, December 1: War Rooms and Theater
OPTIONAL: this morning we visit Whitehall and Churchill’s War Rooms to tour the underground bunker where Winston Churchill and his inner circle plotted the route to Allied victory. Glimpse what life would have been like during the tense days and nights of WW2. Admission on your own. George will guide you to the entrance at Whitehall, stopping to watch the beginning ceremony for The Changing of the Guard, which begins at Horseguard’s Parade & barracks for the Household Cavalry.
Tonight we get together for our THIRD West End Theater outing, TBD.
Saturday, December 2: West End Theater
The day is yours until theater tonight. You may enjoy one of London’s many museums or galleries. The National Gallery and The Portrait Gallery are just steps from our hotel, and both are free! Venture a bit further and walk the wobbly bridge from St. Paul’s to the Tate Modern. There is a museum or gallery in London for every interest! After a day of site-seeing, we’ll be off for our fourth and final Theater outing, A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Old Vic. This will be our fourth year including this cutting edge new telling of the Dickens classic.
Sunday, December 3: Dinner Party at THE SAVOY
This morning you may like to visit services at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey or St Martin-in-the-fields. All are welcome at regular services. George will offer to take those interested to a choral service at the 12th Century CHURCH OF THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR.
Throughout the week, there are many Christmas carol concerts and services at churches and halls around London. A festive carol service is sure to warm up your holiday spirit.
Tonight, celebrate our week together in London with cocktails & Christmas dinner at the famous SAVOY HOTEL on the Strand.
Monday, December 4:
Time to leave London until next time. Pack your Christmas gifts and souvenirs before hotel check out this morning. Private coach transportation will be arranged to London Heathrow. Be sure to share your photos and memories! Choose an airline departure time that departs after 12:30 PM.
